Augustine (pictured here with his vehicle) loves his country and has a huge vision to see his people reached with the Good News of Jesus, to help usher in healing and begin to restore hope to the Liberian people.

Dawn shares his vision and with the help of others we are making a difference. Since 2012 we have:

  • Launched the DGC (see Background) in several communities and hired a Supervisor and facilitators

  • Purchased dozens of sewing machines for the DGC and provided fabrics

  • Provided equipment, training and Launched “Studio One” to assist LAGMA (Liberia Association of Gospel Music Artists) in helping Liberians have an outlet for their musical gifting

  • Provided Augustine with his first-ever vehicle to use for ministry and family purposes

  • Provided decent housing and running water for Augustine and his family

  • Purchased major appliances for Augustine’s family (no more washboard laundry)

BACKGROUND

In 2008 in South Africa Dawn met Augustine, National Director of Youth for Christ Liberia. God imparted something powerful to him. He invited Dawn to come and bring hope to the women of his nation. She had no idea what was ahead….

When Augustine returned home from South Africa, he honored Dawn by launching a new branch of his ministry and naming it “Dawn’s Girls’ Club.”

The Vision of the club is “To empower every young woman in Liberia to make informed decisions to follow Christ and become independent through those basic skills that Dawn’s Girls’ Club will offer.” The skills taught include sewing, baking and catering, cosmetology, and interior design.

Due to Liberia’s history (see History) it was not safe for Dawn to go there until 2012. During her visit many doors of opportunity to impact this nation were opened through speaking, counseling, media appearances, meetings with government officials, and contact with the people. A love affair with the Liberians began.

In 2013 Dawn returned with a team. They spoke, counseled, loved people, appeared on national television and radio and gave the people “Prayer for Liberia,” a song Nathan (her son) put together from what God gave Dawn on the first visit. (The song is on “Springs of Joy…Along Life’s Journey” which you can purchase on our Resources page.)

In 2017 Dawn again visited this small nation and was invited to speak before the Liberian Senate. A powerful experience with impact we won’t fully know until Heaven. This trip also included speaking in schools and churches, praying over hundreds of individuals and lots of love shared.

More trips are ahead depending upon the political climate there.

HISTORY

Liberia’s history is pretty tragic. Once the place to go in West Africa for higher education, it is now one of the poorest nations in the world. It is still recovering from a fourteen-year civil war from 1989-2003, during which unspeakable atrocities were visited upon the people. Then only a few years later the Ebola crisis. 60% of the population is considered “youth” with a high number being under age 15. Unemployment is extremely high as is armed robbery and corruption. The very sad truth is Liberia has been largely ignored by both the international community and the church. That is, until Ebola catapulted this nation the size of Virginia into the international media and then the attention was largely negative and full of reasons to fear this broken and wounded nation.
